Mardi Gras Records presents The Meters - "The Best of the Meters"Based out of New Orleans and formed by Art Neville in the late 1960's, The Meters built a fanatical following during the 1970's. As the band also includes Art's brothers Aaron and Charles, The Meters may be best known for their later work as members of the Neville Brothers. But true fans of R&B music know that The Meters delivered the goods when it came down to hardcore southern funk and soul. Lead by the popular single "Hey Pocky A-way", this collection features the tracks that best defined The Meters sound at the height of their popularity. The Rolling Stones and Robert Palmer, whose 70's output was heavily influenced by The Meters, count themselves among their biggest fans. Meters' drummer Zigaboo Modeliste would in fact tour with Stones' members Keith Richards and Ron Wood in a 70's side project known as The New Barbarians. Other artists that recorded with the Meters during this period include Paul McCartney, Dr. John and Patti Labelle.
